Catholic Liturgical Cremation
The Mass of Christian Burial
The Catholic Church prefers that the body or the cremains of the deceased be present for the funeral rite. The cremated remains, however , are to be treated with the same respect as the body before cremation. The church requires that the cremains should have a reverent disposition, including burial in a grave or entombment in a mausoleum or columbarium.
The Catholic Cremation celebrates the life of the loved one through several liturgical rites. In order to have the body of the loved one present during the mass, “Cremation Following Funeral Liturgy” is the best choice. For those who choose to have the cremated remains of the loved one at the mass, “Cremation Before Funeral Liturgy” is the best selection.
