Bernice Lynn Burns

Bernice Lynn Burns, 103, died May 7, 2015 at John Knox Village Care Center.  Bernice was born at home in Leeds, MO on October 8, 1911, the daughter of Nora Lee Lynn and Jesse Otto Burns. Bernice graduated in 1930 from Central High School, Kansas City, MO and went from there to Research Hospital School of Nursing, Kansas City, MO, where she graduated in 1933 as an RN, specializing in neonatal care.  Although most of her career was at Research Hospital, where she retired in 1976, she also worked and studied at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO, and worked in Los Angeles, CA from time to time, always in neonatal care.

Bernice traveled extensively.  In the US, she travelled to every state except Florida and Alaska. Foreign travel took her to Mexico, Canada, Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, France, Germany, Italy and Austria.  All her life, she loved to read, and she tried to encourage all her family members to also experience the joy of reading.  She had a wide range of reading interests which included fiction, adventure, romance novels, medical novels; and she read the KC Star every day.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Maxine Shope Clements.  Bernice never married.  Survivors include cousins, Cinda Rosenbaum and her husband, Bruce, plus their children and grandchildren; and Jari Clements and her husband, Jack, and daughter.

Graveside services were held at Brooking Cemetery, Raytown, MO on May 9, 2015.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of your choice.
