Dwayne “Papa” Johnson

Dwayne Johnson, 54, Independence, MO passed away September 4, 2012.  Memorial services weill be held 11 am Saturday, September 8, 2012 12 Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, Missouri.  A visitation will be held 11am-12PM prior to the memorial services at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society.  Mr. Johson was born November 24, 1957 in Lee’s Summit, MO.  Dwayne lived in Independence Missouri and  graduated from William Christman 1976.   He held the state for high jumping for 6’8″ until just a couple years ago.  Dwayne worked for the City of Independence for 28 years, with a couple years at Armco Steel.  He retired from Ford Motor Company in 2007.  He met his wife in 1976 and took on her 3 children as his own. They have been together for 36 years.  They would have been married 22 years in November.
He was loved by all.  He was Papa to seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren who he was over the moon for.  He was named Papa by his first grandchild Donesha, and it stuck.  Everyone called him Papa.  Every person who met him loved him.  He had a big heart and was a kind man.  Every child who came in his life, he played Papa to.  You don’t ask Nana, you ask Papa, he will let you have anything.  🙂  We couldn’t take him anywhere he either didn’t make a friend or know someone already.  When working at George Owens Nature Park for the City, he met hundreds of people in his 19 years there.  Never did I hear of anyone complaining of this wonderful man with a smile for everyone. He was preceded in death by his parents; Rufus Hill and Alberta Johnson;  his beloved Aunt Baba, Leona Moses.  And many others.
Survivors include; his wife, Sherie Johnson Independence; his children, Shelly Campbell-Butcher, Blue Springs, John Campbell, Blue Springs, and Misty Campbell-Wilmes, Excelsor Springs; his grandchildren, Donesha Baylis, D’Juan Baylis, Ashleigh Wilmes, Sabrina Campbell, Zachary Wilmes, Austin Campbell, Adriana Campbell;  his two great grandchildren, Lilith Baylis and Drake Baylis; one sister; two brothers and many aunts, uncles, cousins & friends. Memorial Contributions: in lieu of flowers to help pay for funeral costs. (arr. Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, 816-313-1677)

To the family of Dwayne Johnson -You are in my prayers, and I ask that God gives you all comfort and the true meaning of “family coming together” during this time of bereavement. Dwayne was such a friendly person and, it was always a joy to talk with him. May he now find peace and joy – which passeth all understanding – as he is re-united with his parents and other loved ones, who have gone on before him.
