Rita Woodward

 

Rita Joan Woodward, 85, Independence, MO passed away, July 19, 2014. She was born, November 26, 1928 in the seaside town of Clevedon, county of Somerset, England and immigrated to the United States in 1946, coming through Ellis Island as a war bride following her marriage to Harry Woodward at the end of World War II. She was a homemaker and an avid reader.  Rita worked for the Independence School District at Truman High School and was a member of the Transatlantic Brides and Parents Association where she gathered with her fellow English friends.  She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother whose kind, gentle and generous nature will be missed by all.  

Rita was preceded in death by: husband, Harry B Woodward in 1974; parents, Leslie and Olive Garland; sister, Sheila Cook and companion, Luis Peregrina.  Rita is survived by: sons & daughters-in-law, Les & Janet Woodward, Independence, MO, Chris & Frances Woodward, Lee’s Summit, MO, Paul & Linda Woodward, Odessa, MO, Brian & Cindy Woodward, Independence, MO; brother-in-law, Ron Cook, Independence, MO; five grandchildren & seven great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 10-11AM, Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, followed by a memorial service at 12PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Village Hospice. (arr. Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, 816-313-1677)
