Arleta Vincent

Arleta Vincent passed away peacefully on January 23, 2024, surrounded by the warmth of her family. She was born Arleta Maxine Brees, February 10, 1930, to John J. and Gladys Graham Brees in Long Island, Kansas. Arleta lived a life filled with love, patience, and kindness.

Arleta was the beloved wife of Elden J. Vincent whom she married June 5, 1949. Together they raised four children, Jerry (Linda) Vincent of Levant, KS, Rex (Randa) Vincent of Kansas City, KS, Mike (Wanda) Vincent of Norton, KS, and Debra (Martin) Ryan of Olathe, KS. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years who died October 22, 2009, her parents, her sisters Luella Parker and LaVada Gebhard, an infant brother, and an infant granddaughter.

Born on a chilly February day in 1930, Arleta’s warmth and love created a haven for her family. Arleta’s love for her family knew no bounds. She never tired of cooking incredible food for her family and friends, and was also a talented seamstress, making beautiful clothes for her family.

In addition to being a loving mother, wife, and daughter, Arleta, along with her sisters Luella and LaVada, owned and operated The Island Market, a grocery store in Long Island, KS, for many years. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Norton, where she sang in the choir for over 35 years.

The immediate family will be having a private celebration of her great life at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Long Island Community Center, or the Norton Public Library.

May Arleta rest in eternal peace with the loved ones who have preceded her, and may her memory continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
