Jane Nanette Helms (Yancey)

December 12, 1944 – May 27, 2023,  Lee’s Summit, MO.

Nanette passed away peacefully at KU Medical Center surrounded by her family, May 27, 2023. She was born December 12, 1944 in Sedalia, MO to Ethel L. Griffin and Joel S. Yancey in Sedalia.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 5, 2023 from 9am-11am, with services immediately following at Woods Chapel United Methodist Church, 4725 NE Lakewood Way, Lee’s Summit, MO. Burial will be in Smithton Cemetery, Smithton, MO.  Pallbearers will be Brian Helms, Steven Helms, Mark Helms, Griff Streit, Bob Pfeiffer, and John Krisman. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The American Cancer Society, www.donate.cancer.org.

Nanette graduated from Smith Cotton High School in 1963. She married Joseph Donald Helms, Jr., on October 22, 1965. After she & Joe married, she worked for Yellow Freight in Kansas City for many years. Her most passionate long term career was an Independent Beauty Consultant for Mary Kay.  Nanette was blessed with many talents including enjoying her flowers, sewing, reading, but most of all, watching her granddaughters tubing, fishing and swimming – as long as she did not have to get in her husband’s bass boat at the Lake of the Ozarks!  

Nanette is survived by her loving husband Joseph Donald Helms, Jr. She is also survived by a brother Gary Yancey of Sedalia, MO; three sons Brian (Rhonda) Helms, Cosby TN; Steve Helms, Lee’s Summit, MO; and Mark (Brandie) Helms, Pleasant Hill, MO. She is also survived by six beautiful granddaughters Amber, Madeline, Marissa, Rada, Hannah and Hailey Helms, along with many more family members and friends.

Nanette was loved by many and will be missed by all.

    I have many good memories of her, spending so much time with Jamie & your family, when we were younger.
    Yes, she was THE Mary Kay connection.
