Michael Dean Huffman

Michael Dean Huffman, lovingly known as Mike, passed away peacefully at home on August 1, 2025, at the age of 72, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on October 10, 1952, in Atchison, Kansas, Mike lived a life full of movement, exploration, and family time. His curiosity led him far beyond Kansas, as he traveled extensively across the United States, living for periods in California and Alaska. He often brought a camera along to document his experiences.

Mike was a devoted father and proud grandfather whose love and presence will be deeply missed. He is survived by his sister Patricia, his daughter Rachel, son-in-law JP, and granddaughter Stella, who brought him immeasurable joy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Bill Huffman, and his sister Cathy.

Per Mike’s wishes, no memorial service will be held. His family honors his request and encourages those who knew him to remember him in their own way—perhaps with a quiet moment outdoors, behind a camera lens, or with a margarita or Corona in hand.

Of all the Huffmans, Mike and I were close in age (along with Diane) and shared many moments together at reunions and get togethers. Always enjoyed being around him, he was a great cousin to me. He always wanted to make you laugh!
I will miss him and his voice and his laugh.
Gods speed brother, say hello for me.
See you on the other side

So very sorry for your loss… I have many memories of Mike and your family as we lived either by or close by the Huffman family. I believe my mom and dad even played cards with Bill and Betty in the early years. I Have lost touch over the years but saw Mike two different times at the 1970 class reunions. May he rest in peace and my thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time🙏

Mike was a classmate of mine. (55 years ago) and he still looks the same. Good guy. Pretty much talked on facebook last several years. So glad he got to love that baby girl for a while. RIP buddy.

Mike and his two sisters (Tricia and Cathy) are mine and my 4 siblings only first cousins. My mom and his mom were sisters. I’m glad that we all grew up in Atchison. I have many fond memories of family get-togethers. I am so sorry for your loss. Sending hugs and prayers to the family. May Mike RIP.
